In preparation for the upcoming season of HBO’s How to Make It In America, the network recently highlighted New York-based Mishka for a promotional bumper. So as most of you know I’m in Jakarta, Indonesia right now for a half year Internship. I’ve started my work with Delta Orion a startup company specialized in medical apparel last week to help them enter the European Market. But writing an export marketing plan and market entry strategy is just one part of my trip to Indonesia. My second goal is to experience the culture, habits, food and sights of Indonesia and I’ve made ALLOT of plans to see the most beautiful places this archipelago has to offer.
If I had to explain Indonesia in one word culture shock would be an understatement. Indonesia is an explosion of culture, religion, food and lifestyle. The island republic has roughly 230 million inhabitants, the most part Muslim but there are also sub religions like Buddhists, Christians and Hindoe which all live together like it’s the most normal thing in the world. With today’s turmoil around religion and culture western countries should take point at the peaceful get together of the Indonesians despite their many differences.
Indonesian lifestyle cannot be explained by poor or wealthy. For western standards most Indonesians live relatively humble but once your here and get used to your surroundings you tend to blend in just nicely.
While I’m here I will make attempt to give you guys as many impressions of my adventures and other interesting stuff as possible.
Last week we did a little trip to Bogor which is a two hour trip from Jakarta to a botanic jungle-ish spot. Unfortunately I couldn’t enjoy the sights as much as I would like to since everybody thinks I’m some kind of celebrity or singer from abroad and therefore had to make tons of pictures and sign autographs. I guess that’s my 15 minutes of fame moment.
Up next I will be going on a safari in the wild and to china town in the middle of Jakarta to seek out some new adventures.
